May 30, 1922: Completed Lincoln Memorial dedicated by US Chief Justice William H. Taft in front of 50,000.


May 31, 1868: 1st Memorial Day parade held in Ironton, Ohio.


June 1, 1888: California gets its 1st seismograph.


June 2, 1917: Canadian ace Billy Bishop undertakes a solo mission behind enemy lines, shooting down three aircraft as they were about to take off and several more on the ground, for which he is awarded the Victoria Cross.


June 3, 1940: Last British and French troops evacuated from Dunkirk.


June 4, 1896: Henry Ford takes his 1st Ford through streets of Detroit.
